2 de Septiembre, Mendoza

On Tuesday I spent the day walking around Mendoza. At least the center.

Mendoza seems quite a small place without that much to see. It is quite an arid place, a desert town, one of the reasons apparently for its good wine!

The center is small in size and it is mainly made of 5 plazas, distributed like the dots on a dice’s number 5 side. In the middle we have the Plaza de la Independencia (as in the rest of Argentina independence is a big thing, so there are a lot of names on independence and San Martin, their independence hero). Here is where my hotel is, Hotel Argentino, economic in price, nothing to die for but it does the trick.

Have a look at the water canals that enable the city to have some greenesss.

On the other cornea of the dice the other Plazas.

My favourite is the Plaza de Espania, not only as Spain’s square but because it is the most beautiful… I have spent a bit of time seeing the time go by having a cup of tea in one of its benches...

There is also a pedestrian street (calle sarmiento) with cafes on the pavement. As the weather is quite mild (in contrast to the snow storm in the mountains) it is very nice to sit around.

The other main thing is the San Martin park, a bit to the west. It is quite a big green space with a serpentine like lake with people canooing around.

One thing that frustrates me is that Mendoza is a stone throw away from the Andes and the Aconcagua, and the view from here are meant to be breath taking, yet due to the clouds I havent seen them yet!!!
